An asthma action plan (AAP) provides a guide to control the patient’s asthma. It is developed by you and your doctor specifically to manage your asthma. It provides guidance on proper use of medicines, asthma triggers you need to avoid, how to respond to worsening symptoms, when to call the doctor, and when to seek emergency care.
You, your family, the school nurse or your employer, your doctor, and others with whom you spend a lot of time should have a copy of your plan, and know how to respond in the event of an asthma attack.
Your asthma action plan is a tool to help you self-manage your asthma.
