The Center for Health Statistics is THE SOURCE for timely, accurate and useful Health Information in Texas. We do this by:

  • Coordinating, integrating, and providing access,
  • Adopting standards for collection and dissemination,
  • Providing guidance and education, and
  • Conducting analysis and interpretation,
  • while protecting the privacy of the citizens of Texas.

    Lisa Wyman, Director
    Collects, analyzes and disseminates health information for public health decision making in Texas.
    Manages and administers BRFSS and related surveys. Provides expertise in health data surveys, community assessments, and outcomes research.
    Develops data management methods & tools. Coordinates & maintains CHS's web resources. Provides comprehensive & prompt responses to data requests.
    Provides GIS, forecasting and demographic support. Provides technical expertise on research design and analytical methods.
    Collects, analyzes and disseminates health information regarding health provider resources in Texas.
    Collects and reports hospital facility data, hospital charity care and community benefits data.
    Collects, analyzes and publishes employment, demographic, supply and educational trends for health professionals.
    Identifies and researches the workforce data needed to address the current and future nurse workforce shortages in Texas.
    Collects and reports on inpatient discharge data from hospitals and data from HMOs to enable individuals to make informed health care decisions.
    Coordinates the Statewide Health Coordinating Council (SHCC).
    Provides library and information services, audiovisual services, funding information and Records Management.
    Coordinates the Institutional Review Board at DSHS.
