About the Oral Health Improvement Program (OHIP)
Oral health is the term we use to refer to the health of everything inside your mouth -- not just your teeth. It’s surprising for people to learn that good oral health is critical to overall health. Tooth decay and gum disease not only lead to tooth loss but can impact your general life. Dental health issues are associated with heart disease, stroke, arthritis, and diabetes.
Tooth decay is the most common chronic disease among U.S. children. More than 68% of Texas 3rd graders have experienced tooth decay.
