BIG SPRING – Big Spring State Hospital Volunteer Services Council named Helen Crandall as February’s Volunteer of the Month.

Crandall began volunteering at The Chalet Resale Shop in November 2005 when she was recruited by Chalet co-chair Ruth Nanny to work a few hours a week. The few hours a week turned into a full day and eventually she began organizing different departments of the Chalet, beginning with the seasonal department that boasts holiday sale items.

She is extremely thorough, checking the Christmas light strings at home for burned out bulbs and then untangling the cords. She has logged more than 2,600 volunteer hours by working each Tuesday and some Saturdays.

Her passion for the Chalet pulls other volunteers into the shop when her church group donates during the holiday season. She and her husband also are active with the Cars and Stars fund-raiser and previous Valentine’s Day fund-raisers.

Crandall will be recognized as February’s Volunteer of the Month with a rose bud vase donated by Alley Kat Design.
