Admission Information

An individual seeking services offered by El Paso Psychiatric Center is evaluated by an interdisciplinary team responsible for completion of diagnostic testing to determine eligibility for mental health services. This team of professionals determines eligibility for services and makes recommendations according to the service request. If service requests include admission to an acute treatment setting, the interdisciplinary team recommends the least restrictive environment in which the needs of the applicant can be met.

Persons with mental health problems may be considered for services at El Paso Psychiatric Center if their needs cannot be or are not met by community in-home, day program or residential service providers. A prospective patient is not denied service on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, sex, age, handicap, marital status, sexual preference or ability to pay. Applications are processed and endorsed through the mental health authority (MHA) area in which the prospective patient lives. Services are initiated by the individual, family or legally authorized representative with the assistance of the MHA's Continuity of Services Coordinator when it is determined that El Paso Psychiatric Center can provide the needed services and is considered to be the least restrictive environment.

A packet needs to be submitted that includes an application for admission, determination of mental health problems, court commitment for services, level of need and level of care protocols and copies of Letters of guardianship, as applicable. In addition, the following assessments may also be required: medical/physical assessment, nursing assessment, nutrition assessment, occupational therapy assessment, audiology assessment, physical therapy assessment, social history and/or social assessment, psychological assessment and/or behavioral intervention program, individual habilitative Plan, vocational assessment, and immunization record. Other records may be requested as needed on an individual basis.
