Volunteer Services

Volunteer programs have been an important part of Kerrville State Hospital for almost as long as the hospital has been in existence. Volunteers are actively involved in providing many special items and activities for KSH patients.

The Volunteer Services Council (VSC) is a separate non-profit organization which supports the volunteer program and patient activities which cannot be funded or sponsored by state funds.

Activities and projects funded by the VSC are:

  • Birthday gifts

  • Christmas gifts and related holiday activities

  • Computers for use by patients

  • Personal grooming items and clothing accessories

  • Cash assistance for canteen spending money for those without financial resources

  • Special meals for units or holiday activities

  • Entertainment

  • Unit holiday parties and activities

Opportunities for volunteering include:

  • Sponsor a birthday, Christmas, or holiday party

  • Assist with campus-wide special events

  • Assist in the patient library

  • Work with the rummage sale preparation and event

  • Provide live music for special events

  • Serve on the VSC

  • Assist staff with clerical work

  • Provide a special arts and crafts or education project
