Volunteer Services

Volunteer program are an important part of North Texas State Hospital. Volunteers are actively involved in providing extra opportunities and activities for patients. NTSH is home for two Volunteer Services Councils (one for each campus). Each is dedicated to providing for the people who are patients at the Vernon or Wichita Falls campuses above what the State is able to give.

Activities and projects funded by the VSC include:

  • Christmas gifts for residents
  • Birthday parties and cakes
  • Tickets and opportunities to attend special community events
  • Clothing through fashion shops on each campus
  • Other projects and special events for patient enjoyment and to meet specific needs
  • Summer teenage volunteer program (Wichita Falls campus)

Opportunities for volunteering include:

  • Provide cakes for parties
  • Donate used clothing and items for garage sales
  • Assist with patient activities
  • Provide funds
  • "Adopt a Kid" program (Vernon Adolescent Forensic Program)
