Services Offered at Waco Center for Youth

Education – is furnished through Axtell Independent School District, which provides on campus academic learning experiences in small group settings.

Treatment Team – is led by a board-certified psychiatrist, and assesses each youth's clinical needs and develops an appropriate treatment approach.

Medical Services – ensures that each youth benefits from continuous general medical care by WCY's full time pediatrician.

Clinical Services – provides each adolescent with an assigned clinical therapist who is responsible for:

  • Individual and group therapy.

  • Family therapy.

  • Coordination of the treatment team.

  • Case management services.

  • Assistance with aftercare planning.

Nursing Services – provides nurses with specialized therapeutic skills, who apply the nursing process to address the needs of the individual and family.

Habilitation and Wellness Services – addresses residents’ need for a healthy life style through self-care, independent living, social, nutritional, recreational and leisure skill training.

Aftercare – coordinates relationships between Waco Center for Youth, families, Mental Health Centers, state facilities, and other community resources.

The Staff – gives youth a chance for change by building a totally therapeutic environment for emotionally distressed young people. This commitment is demonstrated by a highly trained and motivated staff, as well as a large number of community volunteers who provide donated goods and services to the center's youngsters.

Rights Protection – is assured for center youth by a Rights Officer, who is available to assist center youth, families and staff in understanding the youth's rights, privileges and responsibilities.

Chaplaincy Services – provides youth with opportunities for spiritual formation while insuring their rights of religious freedom.

Residential Life – offers young people of the Waco Center for Youth cottage style housing under 24-hour staff supervision. While at the campus, each youth participates in a variety of programs, activities, and learning experiences, so that they might successfully return to home and community.
