Public Health Region 1 General Sanitation

The activities of the PHR 1 General Sanitation staff are related to the enforcement of various State laws and the regulations passed by the Texas Board of Health pursuant to those laws.

The General Sanitation Division's objective is to provide service to the public by coordinated surveillance, consultation, complaint handling, and enforcement to maintain and improve environmental health in schools, and youth camps. The Division staff handles a multitude and wide range of complaints on community and environmental sanitation, and provide guidance to the general public, local agencies and health departments in environmental health hazard identification and correction in many areas such as vector-borne disease control consultation.

In addition to the routine activities of the Division, the staff is frequently involved in unpredictable work such as complaint investigations, investigations of communicable diseases, and disaster investigations.
