Vision and Hearing Program 


Mission
Children in schools and licensed child care facilities with possible vision or hearing problems will be identified early and referred to appropriate remedial services for diagnosis and care.

Background
The School Vision and Hearing Screening Program falls under The Special Senses and Communication Disorders Act, Chapter 36 of the Texas Health and Safety Code.


Activities

  • Certification workshops for persons who wish to screen children in schools and licensed child care facilities
  • Guidance and technical assistance to schools, childcare facilities, organizations and individuals
  • Identify local and state resources for referral, information  and remedial purposes
  • Field compliance reviews of schools and licensed child care facilities
  • Audiometers loaned without cost to certified screeners
