Coordinated School Health Health Education

Component Description: 

A planned, sequential, K-12 curriculum that addresses the physical, mental, emotional and social dimensions of health, and is taught by qualified teachers.  The curriculum is designed to motivate and assist students to improve and maintain their health, prevent disease and reduce risky behaviors.  It allows students to develop and demonstrate health-related knowledge, attitudes, skills and practices. 

Health education should address the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), be recommended by the district’s SHAC and be approved by the district school board.  It is a curriculum designed to address all aspects of health.
