Department of State Health Services

  • Children with Special Health Care Needs (CSHCN): 1-800-252-8023 CSHCN is made up of several programs that provide services to children with extraordinary medical needs, disabilities, and chronic health conditions. Children eligible for CSHCN receive hearing services and personal hearing aids.  http://www.dshs.state.tx.us/cshcn/default.shtm

Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services (DARS)

  • Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services: Voice: 512-407-3250; TTY: 512-407-3251 This program has a free telephone assistance program, providing special telephones for various disabilities. The application is at http://www.dars.state.tx.us
  • Vocational Rehabilitation: 1-800-628-5115 This program helps people who have physical or mental disabilities prepare for, find or keep employment. Gaining skills needed for a career, learning how to prepare for a job interview or getting the accommodations needed to stay employed are just a few of the ways this program helps people with disabilities increase productivity and independence. Hearing aids and assistive devices are among the medical equipment provided. http://www.dars.state.tx.us


  • HEAR NOW Program 1-800-234-5422: This is a program of last resort. All other avenues of assistance must be exhausted before Hear Now can provide assistance.
  • Miracle Ear Children’s Foundation 1-800-234-5422. This group provides no-cost hearing aids to children whose families meet certain income levels.
