THISIS
What is THISIS?
TB, HIV, STD Integrated System (THISIS) is an electronic disease surveillance system that provides interactive, automated information gathering and decision support processes for the reporting and management of Tuberculosis (TB), Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), and all reportable Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD). Public health staff will use THISIS to enter, manage, process, track, and analyze data for disease exposure events, treatment, and follow-up.

Why is THISIS needed?
In Texas, the Department of State Health Services (DSHS) and local and regional health jurisdictions track and report disease information using several different outdated, disconnected methods. Before the use of THISIS, the methods for reporting and managing TB, HIV, and STDs were slow, prone to error, difficult to update or fix, provided less protection of private health information, and hindered the ability to quickly and easily identify patients with more than one disease.
Benefits of THISIS
In short, THISIS serves to improve the efficiency and accuracy of disease information management for Texas in a seamless, user-friendly manner. The enhanced communication and coordinated exchange of information will result in a higher level of quality assurance, increased patient-centered care, and improved patient and population health outcomes.

How to use THISIS
There are many types of THISIS users. A user is someone who will be using the THISIS system. Depending on your job title and/or function, you may have access to different capabilities and information within the system (permissions). In THISIS, roles define the permissions of a user. THISIS administrators will assign all users to one or more roles within the system based on their job functions.
Several resources are available to assist users in learning how to work and navigate within THISIS. Explore the links along the right side of this page to become more acquainted with the system.
Access to THISIS
Before using THISIS, ALL users must obtain access to the system. Visit the Access to THISIS page for instructions on how to gain access.
Testimonial
THISIS has been a big help for Tarrant County. I have found it to be very easy to navigate through. I found so many different uses. Even though I am not able to input data into the system, I can use the search button to look up patients to see if they were seen at another county health department and use the workflow button to see if there are patients that I did not know were positive. I am also able to run reports to see if Austin has input my data as well as see if I am missing any data that was pending at the time of the RVCT. I use the Tasks portion in order to stay in contact with Austin if I am needing something from them or if I am needing to send them some data. I am looking forward to inputting my own data and using this new database to capture all kinds of data.
