Required:

  • Currently licensed to practice as a Licensed Vocational Nurse in the State of Texas with 2+ years related work experience

Traditional Duties:

  • Determines nutritional risk conditions using VENA guidelines
  • Prescribes EBT food benefits and low risk nutrition education
  • Assures that program policies and procedures are fully implemented and maintained at site level
  • Evaluates and determines client eligibility/ineligibility for the WIC Program in accordance with WIC guidelines
  • Provides individual nutrition counseling to the WIC clients at certification
  • Determines automated food delivery benefits using Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) codes according to the individual needs of the clients
  • Prepares and delivers education meetings and assists in delivery of nutrition education classes in the WIC sites and satellite sites
  • Submits required program reports, according to policy, in a timely manner
  • Assists in the coordination of the community outreach activities
  • Assists with vendor evaluation and investigation as well as handles complaints in accordance with program polices
  • Screens immunization records to obtain immunization status
  • Acts as backup for conducting hemoglobin or hematocrit test (blood test) or screening weights and heights on applicable WIC clients in accordance with WIC guidelines
  • Performs quality assurance duties as assigned by supervisor

  • Back-up in evaluating and determining client eligibility/ineligibility for the WIC Program in accordance with WIC guidelines
  • Back-up in providing individual nutrition counseling to the WIC clients at certification
  • Provide health education in schools and assist SBE’s
  • Conducts internal monitoring activities to ensure compliance with DSHS WIC Policy and Procedures
  • Evaluate WIC vendors
  • Assist with monthly staff in-service training and preparations
  • Distributes end of month clinical data to WIC sites and assist with DSHS and GCHD annual inventory
  • Assists with Program Planning- assists with analyzing and evaluating program operations and procedures, recommends changes as necessary to improve efficiency and effectiveness of program
  • Drafts and prepares correspondence, memorandums, etc. for signatures
  • Review staff mileage, acquire items from off-site storage facility and oversee WIC’s shared classroom calendar
  • Maintaining adequate levels of supplies for WIC administration
  • Write articles for the WIC news
  • Assist staff with policy inquiries
  • Acts as back up in assisting with WIC’s Annual Plan of Operations report; and WIC’s annual NE/BF plan
