Job Summary
The WIC Clerk interviews applicants to determine income eligibility for WIC benefits. The WIC Clerk explains rules and regulations governing eligibility, receipt of benefits, and legal rights to applicants according to the Department of Health Services (DSHS) WIC policies and procedures. The WIC Clerk accurately weighs, measures and performs hemoglobin analysis, through finger stick, on all potentially eligible WIC participants. The WIC Clerk performs receptionist duties including, answering phones, checking-in clients, issuing benefits and preparing and maintaining records of program participants.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Schedules clients for WIC program appointments.
  2. Explains program qualifications, policies/procedures, and participants responsibilities.
  3. Accurately weighs, measures, and performs hemoglobin analysis.
  4. Monitors and maintain clinic’s supplies and appearance continuously by keeping supplies fully stocked, disinfecting clinic area and calibrating equipment as needed.
  5. Properly issues WIC food benefits, maintaining accountability of all required forms.
  6. Enters WIC participant data into computer accurately and in a timely manner.
  7. Transmits data and prepares reports for the WIC State Agency.
  8. Makes referrals to various agencies and community resources.
  9. Interprets immunizations records.
  10. Maintains and updates WIC patient files.
  11. Completes state modules and organizational trainings in a timely manner.
  12. Serves as outreach spokesperson for Los Barrios Unidos Community Clinic WIC Program.
  13. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

  1. HS Diploma or GED.
  2. Basic computer and data entry skills.
  3. Must be detailed oriented with the ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment.
  4. Excellent written and verbal communication and customer service skills.
