Philanthropic giving by U.S. private and community foundations, companies, and high-net-worth individuals in support of COVID-19 response and relief efforts totaled $1 billion in 2021, a report from Candid and the Center for Disaster Philanthropy (CDP) finds. Funded by the Irene W. and C.B. Pennington Foundation and based on Candid data, the report, Philanthropy and COVID-19 Examining Two Years of Giving, identified 6,283 COVID-related awards from 229 funders as of Dec. 15, 2021.

$ AVAILABLE: Organizations must apply for a specific funding amount aligned with the budgetary needs of the proposed program. Alkermes Inspiration Grants program awards multiple grants within each cycle. Historic grant amounts have primarily fallen within the range of $25,000-$75,000. However, both smaller and larger grants have been funded. The Alkermes Inspiration Grants program will provide up to a total of $500,000 in grants in 2022.
ELIGIBILITY: Only 501(c)(3) charitable organizations in the U.S. that are not engaged in the practice of health care (which includes counseling services) may apply for funding through the program.
PURPOSE: Alkermes is interested in funding programs that are designed to address challenges for people living with alcohol dependence, opioid dependence, schizophrenia, bipolar I disorder, melanoma or ovarian cancer. The program will support innovative and impactful initiatives designed to address acute and long-term challenges for people living with the diseases in Alkermes’ therapeutic areas of focus. As in previous years, proposals that are designed to address the needs of historically under-resourced or underrepresented communities will be prioritized for funding. Applicants are encouraged to be creative and innovative in proposing new programs that will make a difference for patient communities. The committee will also consider significant expansions and improvements to existing programs, and/or the resumption of truly innovative programming with a proven track record that was suspended during the COVID-19 pandemic.
