Barbara L. Klein joined the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) in May 2015, with more than 10 years' experience providing legal representation to various agencies in the State of Texas. Previously she served as Chief Legal Office for the State Office of Risk Management; under both Attorney General John Cornyn and then, Attorney General Gregg Abbott, Ms. Klein worked as an Assistant Attorney General in the Tort Litigation Division; and in the enforcement division at the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.

Ms. Klein graduated summa cum laude from St. Edward's University in Austin, Texas with a Bachelors of Liberal Studies. She earned her juris doctorate from the University of New Hampshire, Franklin Pierce Law Center in Concord, New Hampshire and her Master in Public Affairs, Executive Master in Public Leadership from the LBJ School of Public Affairs, Austin, Texas.
