County Supply and Distribution Tables - Registered Nurses

The parenthetical numbers on this page represent the number of active registered nurses employed in nursing and practicing in Texas. Inactive or retired licensed professionals were excluded. Registered nurses were classified as active if the Texas Board of Nursing licensure renewal file indicated that their license status was “Current,” “Current (Notified for Renewal),” or “Current (Processing Renewal).” Registered nurses with active licenses may or may not be employed in nursing. Registered nurses were classified as working in nursing if they indicated that their employment status was “Employed in Nursing Full Time” or “Employed in Nursing Part Time.” This excludes newly licensed registered nurses. Registered nurses were classified as working in Texas if they indicated that their primary practice state (or mailing address state if practice address was not available) was Texas.

Licensing Board and Data Source

The Texas Board of Nursing adopts rules to regulate persons wishing to practice as registered nurses in Texas.

Information regarding the education requirements, licensure requirements, and responsibilities of registered nurses can be found on the website of the Texas Board of Nursing.

* In 2013, a discrepancy in registered nurse data for Wharton County was identified. Because of this discrepancy, Wharton County registered nurse totals are notably lower than in past years.
