CDC recommended routine HIV screening in 2006. In 2008, we began partnering with health care providers in a variety of settings to implement routine screening. Since then, over 1,070,000 people have been tested as a routine part of their health care.

This has resulted in over 3,800 people learning they had HIV who might not have otherwise known their status. These tests occurred in emergency departments, urgent care clinics, primary care settings, jails, STD clinics and community-based organizations.

Agencies in some of the more moderately sized cities around the state – Lufkin, Tyler, Beaumont, Longview, Port Arthur, and Longview – also routinely screen patients for HIV.
