20.1 Personnel

  • There is a written recruitment process for volunteer positions
     
  • Criminal background checks are required for all volunteers who may have unsupervised contact with minors
     
  • There is a written job description for each volunteer position
     
  • There is a completed application for each volunteer
     
  • Specific paid staff are identified to supervise volunteers
     
  • There is a system in place to document volunteer work time
     
  • When reimbursing volunteers for expenses associated with their position, the agency complies with HIV/STD Policy No. 522.001, Reimbursements to Volunteers Involved in Community Planning or Direct Client Service
     
  • There is a mechanism in place for volunteer appreciation
     
  • There is a policy in place regarding resignation and termination of volunteers

20.2 Orientation/Training

  • There is a volunteer manual that describes the administrative and operational components of the volunteer program
     
  • The agency follows a written volunteer orientation and training plan to introduce the agency’s mission statement, services offered, job responsibilities, etc.

20.3 Policy and Procedure

  • The agency’s drug-free workplace policy includes volunteers
     
  • There is a written grievance procedure that applies to volunteer staff
     
  • There is a signed confidentiality agreement for each volunteer
     
  • There is a written code of conduct for volunteers to follow while working with clients and staff
     
  • There is a signed volunteer agreement outlining the expectations of volunteers to abide by agency rules and responsibilities
