Training - Health Equity

TrainingThe Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) provides the following definition of health equity:

“Health equity means that everyone has a fair and just opportunity to be as healthy as possible. This requires removing obstacles to health such as poverty, discrimination, and their consequences, including powerlessness and lack of access to good jobs with fair pay, quality education and housing, safe environments, and health care.”

Principles of Health Equity – A course designed to help learners remove stigma while providing culturally affirming prevention, care, and treatment services. The course defines sexual health equity, describes the relationship between social determinants of equity and health inequities, and identifies three ways to apply a resiliency framework to prevent health inequities. Continuing education credits are available for this free, self-paced, online course.

Achieving Health Equity – Health equity resources from the HIV Syndicate include resources for you, your family and friends, your organization and your community.

Roots of Health Inequity – This course is not required but offers intensive web-based training for the public health workforce. It offers health department staff a place to investigate the relationship between social injustice—the fundamental cause of health inequities—and everyday public health practice.
