School Vision and Hearing Screening Program
Mission
Children in schools and licensed childcare facilities with possible vision or hearing problems will be identified early and referred to appropriate remedial services for diagnosis and care.
Background
The School Vision and Hearing Screening Program falls under The Special Senses and Communication Disorders Act, Chapter 36 of the Texas Health and Safety Code.
Activities

Certification workshops for persons who wish to screen children in schools and licensed childcare facilities

Guidance and technical assistance to schools, childcare facilities, organizations, and individuals

Identify local and state resources for referral, information and remedial purposes

Field compliance reviews of schools and licensed childcare facilities

Audiometers loaned without cost to certified screeners
