This table includes the number of births to women with prenatal care onset within the first trimester.

*** Texas adopted the new US Standard Certificate of Live Birth in 2005. One of the major changes is the item on month prenatal care began. Previously, this item was a direct question on the birth certificate.
From 2005, the “Month Prenatal Care Began” is a calculated field based on the “Date of First Prenatal Visit”, “Date of Last Menses”, “Child’s Date of Birth”, and “Gestational Age” certificate items.
“Onset of Prenatal Care Within the First Trimester” data from 2005 on, are not directly comparable to previous years.

Definitions:
First Trimester: The first three months of a woman's pregnancy.
Prenatal Care: Care under the obstetrician/gynecologist or other doctor for the woman's pregnancy.
Onset of Prenatal Care in the First Trimester: When a woman had her first appointment with an obstetrician/gynecologist or other medical doctor for her pregnancy within the first three months of pregnancy.
Race: A geographical population of humankind that possesses inherited distinctive physical characteristics that distinguish it from other populations.
Ethnicity: The classification of a population that shares common characteristics, such as religion, traditions, culture, language, and tribal or national origin.
