English: National HIV Testing Day

El 27 de junio es el Día Nacional de la Prueba del VIH, una fecha para animar a las personas de todas las edades a hacerse la prueba y saber si están infectadas por el VIH.

Aunque estos no son tiempos ordinarios, las pruebas siguen estando disponibles en las comunidades de todo Texas. Si quiere hacerse la prueba del VIH o hablar con alguien sobre el VIH, comuníquese con su departamento local y el personal le informará cómo y dónde hacerse la prueba. También puede hablar con su proveedor médico para saber si debe hacerse la prueba.

El DSHS estima que alrededor de 23,300 texanos tienen una infección por VIH no diagnosticada, lo que significa que aproximadamente el 15 por ciento de la población con VIH en Texas no sabe que tiene el virus.

La prueba del VIH salva vidas. La prueba es la única manera de saber si usted tiene el VIH.

• Si tiene el VIH, recibir atención médica y tomar los medicamentos con regularidad puede hacer que la cantidad de VIH en su cuerpo se mantenga a niveles muy bajos. Esto le ayudará a tener una vida larga y saludable y a eliminar el riesgo de transmitir sexualmente el VIH a otras personas.

• Si no tiene el VIH, pero corre un alto riesgo de contraerlo, puede comenzar a recibir la profilaxis preexposición (también conocida como PrEP) (en inglés), un medicamento que se toma a diario para prevenir la infección por el VIH.
