Viral Hepatitis

DSHS proudly announces the release of the Texas Viral Hepatitis Elimination Plan.

Hepatitis means inflammation, or swelling, of the liver. When viruses or toxins inflame or damage the liver, it cannot do its normal work, like cleaning our blood or helping you digest food.

Drinking too much alcohol, taking certain medications, or having certain medical conditions can cause hepatitis.

But the most common cause is a virus. There are five main types of this virus: hepatitis A, B, C, D, and E.
