•  Two patient-specific identifiers required (e.g., patient full name, date of birth, Medical record number)
•  Identifiers on specimen must exactly match submission form.

Shipping and Specimen Handling Requirements

•  Ship according to Dangerous Goods Regulations, IATA, and/or CFR 49

•  Category B shipping applies for unidentified isolates

Method Accuprobe culture confirmation test; hybridization of ribosomal RNA to probe detected by chemiluminesence
Turn-around Time 10  to 14 days for final report when included as part of a referred isolate identification
Interferences/Limitations

•  Positive DNA Probe test does not mean the isolate is still viable.

Common Causes for Rejection

•  Cultures broken in transit

•  Culture completely overgrown by mold

Additional Information

•  Drug susceptibility tesing on M. avium complex and M. gordonae not available at TDSHS laboratory.  Isolates may be forwarded by TDSHS laboratory to reference laboratory for susceptibility testing.  A handling fee may be charged.  Testing at other reference laboratories is subject to fees charged by those laboratories.
