Test Description

Mosquito identification and pooling followed by homogenization of the adult mosquitoes in bovine albumin diluent to prepare the mosquito samples for RNA extraction and cell culture inoculation for the detection of arboviruses.

Pre-Approval Needed Mosquitoes are accepted only from agencies that have been approved for participation in the Texas Department of State Health Services surveillance program.

Storage/Preservation Prior to Shipping

Mosquitoes must be kept cool, not frozen prior to shipping and should be shipped as soon as possible after collection, preferably on the same day as collection.

Each mosquito carton must have its own G-14 submission form completely filled out and attached using a rubber band.

Shipping and Specimen Handling Requirements
  • Ship in insulated boxes with coolant bottles or polar packs wrapped with moistened newspaper.
  • Ship Monday through Thursday only.
  • Do NOT ship on Friday.

Interferences/Limitations
  • Mosquitoes should be shipped as quickly as possible once collected.
