Test Description BAX® PCR Screen and an FDA method of enumeration using a Most Probable Number (MPN) format followed by biochemical testing for identification of V. parahaemolyticus and V. vulnificus in oysters and other food samples.

Storage/Preservation Prior to Shipping
  • Using sterile forceps/instrument, transfer sample to sterile, water-tight, wide-mouthed container.  
  • If possible, store sample at commercial-stock temperature; otherwise, store on crushed ice.
  • Place food sample in sterile zip-lock or whirlpack bag or other sterile plastic container. 
  • Store on ice.

Shipping and Specimen Handling Requirements
  • Ship samples on Ice and/or Ice Packs.
  • Samples must be shipped for overnight delivery.
