Screener Training
The Department of State Health Services (VHSS) Vision, Hearing, and Spinal Screening program offers free screening training. If you or a member of your staff needs training to become certified to provide vision, hearing, or spinal screenings, please click Regional Coordinators | Texas DSHS to find the coordinator closest to your area. They will assist you in registering for the training in your area. Registration is required to attend all training sessions.

Train the Trainer- External Instructor Training
We welcome your interest in becoming an external instructor for the Vision, Hearing, and Spinal Screening Program. Please be aware that not everyone requesting to be an instructor will be approved. You must meet the requirements listed in the External Instructor Policy before applying to become an External Instructor. You must complete and sign both the External Instructor Application and the External Instructor Policy to be considered to become an external instructor. Once completed, submit the forms electronically to VHSSProgram@dshs.texas.gov. The applications will be handled in the order they are received. After the application has been reviewed, a decision will be made, and you will receive an email with the outcome.
