About the CHW Advisory Committee

The CHW Advisory Committee, created by Texas Health and Safety Code, Chapter 48, advises DSHS and the Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) on the implementation of standards, guidelines, and requirements relating to the training and regulation of persons working as promotores or CHWs. Read the rules about the purpose and tasks of this committee.

A member must regularly participate in committee meetings and may need to participate in subcommittee meetings, projects and presentations. Committee meetings are held four (4) times per year in Austin (via webcasting, Microsoft Teams, or on location) at the call of the presiding officer appointed by the DSHS Commissioner.  Individuals appointed as CHWs or public members may receive travel expense reimbursement to attend meetings if funds are available. Individuals who are appointed as members representing higher education or professionals working with CHWs are responsible for their own travel expenses. Committee members who work for a state agency are not eligible for travel expense reimbursement.
