Training - HIV Navigation in Texas
Learning Series
Target Audience: The workforce receiving DSHS funds or resources to support HIV testing, disease intervention services, PrEP navigation and/or Ryan White care and treatment services
All DSHS-funded staff must complete the learning series if they provide or supervise these tasks:
- HIV testing
- HIV navigation
- PrEP navigation
All DSHS-funded staff who provide public health follow-up services (DIS) and/or HIV care and treatment services must complete the training within the first year of employment. (If staff completed HNT in 2018-19, it is not necessary to repeat.)
The goal of the series is to get more Texans successfully linked and maintained in HIV/STD prevention, care, and treatment services, including PrEP, all of which are important elements of the plan to end the HIV epidemic.
HNT Learning Series
HIV Navigation in Texas (HNT) learning series is a blended learning series with four modules (learners will receive full course credit for the HNT Learning Series upon completion of all four Modules):
- Prerequisites (estimated time: 2.5 hours)
- Complete 9 e-learning courses
- Pre-Work (estimated time: 1 hour)
- Review informational slides related to HNT
- Live virtual session (2 hours)
- Review your role in the Status-Neutral Continuum
- Walk a hypothetical client through the Continuum
- Post-Work (estimated time: 1.5 hours)
- Examine and engage with regional Achieving Together data
- Complete the Evaluation and Certificate
Intended Audience: The workforce receiving DSHS funds or resources to support HIV testing, disease intervention services, PrEP navigation and/or Ryan White care and treatment services. All DSHS-funded staff who provide public health follow-up services (DIS) and/or HIV care and treatment services must complete the training within the first year of employment.
Objectives: The goal of the course is to increase understanding of the person-centered, status-neutral HIV navigation process in order to improve continuity in care throughout the HIV services continuum.
By the end of this training, participants will have an opportunity to:
- Describe the HIV status-neutral continuum
- Describe your role in the HIV status-neutral continuum
- Explain how effective navigation contributes to ending the HIV epidemic
- Explain the changes in the HIV prevention and care landscape
- Explain barriers to access/retention to care
