DSHS wants to raise awareness about sexually transmitted infections, or STIs, and ensure people have the tools and knowledge for prevention, testing, and treatment.

Talk Test Treat

STIs are preventable and treatable, and most are curable. DSHS asks individuals and healthcare providers to take three simple actions – Talk. Test. Treat. – to protect their health, the health of their partners, and that of their patients. DSHS encourages everyone to talk openly and honestly to their partner(s) and healthcare provider about sexual health and STIs. Test to know for sure if you have an STI. If you test positive for an STI, treat your infection to be sure you stay healthy and to avoid passing it on to others.

You can lower your risk of getting an STI by:

  • Not having sex.
  • Limiting your number of sex partners.
  • Using a condom every time.
  • If you are sexually active, or thinking of becoming sexually active, it is important that you Talk. Test. Treat.
