Prominently located in southeast San Antonio, the 56 acres of the TCID campus is intended to provide a peaceful and restful environment for healing. Since fresh air and sunshine are essential to recuperation, the campus is designed to provide many areas for outdoor activities or for patients just to rest outside.
The skilled nursing staff is available 24 hours a day to help patients progress in their care and treatment. Each patient's treatment is carefully planned with input ranging from a dietitian to social workers to therapists and a chaplain to help meet each individual's needs.
Treatment may be long-term. Patients are offered a variety of recreational and educational opportunities. It is the mission of the staff to help you until your TB treatment is complete, and to prepare you for your return to your community so you will not need to be treated at TCID again.
TCID provides a variety of activities during your stay. Patients are encouraged to utilize the open gym, with its wide range of exercise equipment. Patient activities are directed through a Recreational Therapist based on each patient's individual plan.
Activities are available as either group or individual activities and include:
- Computer literacy
- Religious Studies
- Computer-based reading literacy
- Computer games
- Board games
- Playing cards
- Video games
- Pet Therapy
- Community Outings
