The TxS2 program is accepting requests to submit data from hospitals with emergency departments, free-standing emergency rooms, and urgent care centers. There are two registrations required to participate in sending syndromic data to the TxS2 program:

1. Registration of intent (ROI) for syndromic surveillance participation
2. Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)

The data sharing configuration consists of data providers using secure protocols to submit individual-level data to DSHS through the Health Services Gateway.  Data are stored in a secure database and accessed by users (LHDs, DSHS PHRs, DSHS central office, and data providers) through the data platform known as ESSENCE (Electronic Surveillance System for the Early Notification of Community-based Epidemics), developed by the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory. 

Facilities in PHR 2/3 should work with Tarrant County Public Health to connect to NTXSS. Data providers located in PHR 2/3 that are already connected to NTXSS should continue to submit data to this system, and the data are additionally sent to TxS2 program. If your facility is located within PHR 2/3 and you would like to connect to this system, please contact Syndromic@tarrantcounty.com. In addition, if your facility would like access to view aggregate statewide syndromic surveillance data, please contact the TxS2 program at syndromic.surveillance@dshs.texas.gov.

Facilities in PHR 6/5S should work with the Houston Health Department to connect to the Houston Health Department system. Similarly, data providers located in PHR 6/5S that are already connected to the Houston Health Department system should submit data to this system and the data are additionally sent to the TxS2 program. If your facility is located within PHR 6/5S and you would like to connect to this system, please contact the Houston Health Department at syndromic@houstontx.gov . In addition, if your facility would like access to view aggregate statewide syndromic surveillance data, please contact the TxS2 program at syndromic.surveillance@dshs.texas.gov.

Data providers outside PHR 2/3 and PHR 6/5S can be connected directly to the TxS2 program. Please contact DSHS at syndromic.surveillance@dshs.texas.gov to obtain more information about registering an intent to submit and view syndromic surveillance data.
