CDC's U.S. Antibiotic Awareness Week
|
In a world where antimicrobial resistance poses a growing threat, the U.S. Antibiotic Awareness Week (USAAW) stands as a crucial initiative to educate and mobilize communities. Join Texas DSHS and the Healthcare Safety Unit every November, to observe CDC’s U.S. Antibiotic Awareness Week highlighting the steps everyone can take to improve antibiotic prescribing and use. |
“Fighting Antimicrobial Resistance Takes All of Us”
November 18-24, 2024:
The CDC's USAAW 2024 has ended, but efforts to combat antimicrobial resistance continue. Here are some ways to keep up the momentum to combat antimicrobial resistance:
- Consult your healthcare provider or veterinarian for the most effective treatment for you, your family, or a pet. Antimicrobials aren’t always the answer.
-
Use hand sanitizer containing at least 60% alcohol to prevent germs from spreading.
-
Stay informed on recommended vaccines to prevent infections, slow antimicrobial resistance, and reduce antimicrobial use.
-
Prepare food safely to prevent foodborne infections. Wash your hands, utensils, and surfaces. Keep raw meat and other foods apart. Bring food to a safe temperature and chill food promptly.
-
Access resources for healthcare providers and veterinarians.
- Share “Be Antibiotics Aware” educational materials for patients/families and healthcare professionals.
- Utilize “Antibiotic Stewardship Resource Bundles” for healthcare professionals, partner organizations, health departments, and professional societies.
- Keep current on antimicrobial use and stewardship in the U.S.
