The Zoonosis Control Division promotes public health through prevention and control of diseases transmissible from animals to man. The Zoonosis Control Division provides the following services:

  • investigation and surveillance of reported zoonotic diseases in animals and humans 
  • collection of biological specimens for disease surveillance 
  • participation of the Rapid Response Team in emerging disease surveillance case field investigations 
  • identification of various rabies virus strains in submitted specimens 
  • provision of human rabies biologicals 
  • regulation and inspection of rabies quarantine facilities 
  • training of Animal Control Officers 
  • implementation of the Oral Rabies Vaccination Program for wildlife
