Minority Health

The Office for the Elimination of Health Disparities (OEHD) helps unserved or under-served communities. It promotes the adoption of healthy lifestyles and the preventive and primary health services in minority communities. It also provides technical assistance, both organizational and funding, to organizations which provide public health services for minority communities.

The OEHD Team will also train regional staff to develop a more culturally-competent and sensitive work force. They will help us remove barriers that stop minorities from using health services.

Tobacco Prevention and Control

The Office of Tobacco Prevention and Control is the state's tobacco information resource center. The office also has eight regional tobacco coordinators. Coordinators conduct FDA Compliance investigations within the region. They coordinate training workshops for work sites, schools, health care providers, and community organizations. Training workshops:

  • Facilitate the implementation of non-smoking policies,
  • Provide tobacco education resources, and
  • Promote smoke-free indoor air.

Regional staff also helps with the development of non-smoking policies and ordinances for local communities and work sites. Youth and vendor compliance education helps reduce youth tobacco use and start tobacco prevention.
