Charles DeGraw TB Advocacy Award (2025)

Charles DeGraw TB Advocacy Award The Texas Center for Infectious Disease was awarded the Charles DeGraw TB Advocacy Award. This award recognizes an individual or organization making an outstanding effort or achievement advocating for increased support and recognition of tuberculosis (TB) control and prevention efforts. The award is sponsored by the National Tuberculosis Controllers Association, established in 1995.

Breathe Easy Campaign

Breathe Easy CampaignThe Breathe Easy South Texas (B.E.S.T.) project anchored in San Antonio, Texas, formed partnerships in the community to screen people at higher risk of TB and treat people with latent TB infection. The project takes on the challenge of eliminating TB in the South Texas region. The B.E.S.T. Project has tested over 20,000 people for TB and has worked to achieve a TB treatment completion rate of 83%. 

CDC TB Elimination Champions

There are many individuals and organizations working in effective and engaging ways to end tuberculosis (TB) in the United States. The CDC U.S. TB Elimination Champions Project provides an opportunity to recognize accomplishments and learn best practices from individuals who are making significant contributions to eliminating TB in the United States.

CDC Elimination Champs (2024)The Texas Center for Infectious Disease, Respiratory Therapy Department's research highlights their respirators' efficacy and cost-effectiveness. They are committed to patient education and evidence-based practices. They have advanced TB elimination efforts by setting new standards in respiratory care amidst emerging infectious diseases. The Respiratory Therapy Department is an invaluable ally in the fight against TB. 

CDC Elimination Champs (2023)

CDC Elimination Champs (2023) Texas Center for Infectious Disease provides behavioral, psychiatric, and major medical care, in addition to TB-related care. TCID works with people who are more at risk for drug-resistant TB. Inpatient nurses create a culture to eliminate stigma and actively educate families and patients about TB.
