General Reporting Requirements
 

Texas laws affecting TB

Both TB disease or suspicion of disease, and TB infection are Notifiable Conditions reportable to your local or regional health department.

Reportable TB Disease or Suspicion of TB Disease - Reportable within one (1) working day. This includes the following: suspected tuberculosis disease pending final laboratory results; positive nucleic acid amplification tests; clinically or laboratory-confirmed tuberculosis disease; and all Mycobacterium tuberculosis (M. tb) complex including M. tuberculosis, M. bovis, M. africanum, M. canettii, M. microti, M. caprae, and M. pinnipedii. Reportable Tuberculosis Infection - Reportable within one (1) week to the local or regional health department. A diagnosis of a latent TB infection is NOT complete until the following criteria have been met:

  1. Positive tuberculin skin test (TST) with results written in millimeters and date read, or positive result from an FDA-approved Interferon-Gamma Release Assay (IGRA) test; and
  2. Documentation that patient has no current signs or symptoms of active tuberculosis disease; and
  3. Chest radiography results that are read as normal, or not consistent with TB; and
  4. There is no suspicion of active TB disease
