Viral Hepatitis
DSHS is excited to announce the release of the Texas Viral Hepatitis Elimination Plan.
Hepatitis means inflammation, or swelling, of the liver. When the liver is inflamed or damaged, it cannot do its normal work – like cleaning our blood or helping you digest food.
Drinking too much alcohol, taking certain medications, or having certain medical conditions can cause hepatitis.
But the most common cause is a virus. There are five main types of this virus: hepatitis A, B, C, D, and E.
