About the CHW Advisory Committee
The
CHW Advisory Committee created by Texas Health and Safety Code, Chapter 48,
advises DSHS and the Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) on the
implementation of standards, guidelines, and requirements relating to the
training and regulation of persons working as promotores or CHWs. The purpose
and tasks of this committee are also stated in the rules found at: https://www.dshs.texas.gov/chw/legislation.aspx
A member must regularly participate in committee meetings and
may also have to participate in subcommittee meetings, projects and
presentations. Committee meetings will be held four (4) times per year in
Austin, via webcasting, or Microsoft Teams, or location, at the call of the
presiding officer appointed by the DSHS Commissioner. Committee members that
work for a state agency will not receive reimbursement of expenses. Individuals
appointed as CHW or public members may be reimbursed for their travel to and
from meetings if funds are available. Individuals who are appointed as members
representing higher education or professionals working with CHWs are
responsible for their own travel expenses.
