The Community Health Worker (CHW) or Promotor(a) Training and Certification Program provides leadership to enhance the development and implementation of statewide training and certification standards.

It also provides administrative rules for persons who are certified as promotors or community health workers, instructors, and sponsoring institutions/training programs.

Our Why 

CHWs Are an Important and Emerging Workforce. Dr. John Hellerstedt, Commissioner of the Texas Department of State Health Services, discusses the importance of community health workers as an essential asset in Texas health.  

 

How We Serve 

The program provides three (3) types of certifications, assists the CHW Advisory Committee and provides resources, reports, articles, and research material to assist current and future community health workers.
