Newborn Screening Advisory Committee
The 81st Texas Legislature passed House Bill (HB) 1795 to create the Newborn Screening Advisory Committee in 2009. HB1795 is also known as “Greyson’s Law,” in memory of Greyson Morris. In 2013, the 83rd Legislature passed House Bill 740 to amend Texas Health & Safety Code §33.017 and establish the minimum number of committee members.
The Newborn Screening Advisory Committee advises the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) on strategic planning, policy, rules, and services related to newborn screening. The committee also recommends additional newborn screening tests. The DSHS commissioner appoints members of the committee.
