Preventive Medicine Year 2 

Dr. Lana Yamba

Lana Yamba, MD, MPH, CCRC


Medical School: University Kongo, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)

Previous Experience: Transitional Year Program at University of Texas Rio Grande Valley in Edinburg, TX; Completed her MPH through Texas A&M University; Held multiple positions as a research coordinator at DHR and UT at Austin

Professional Interests: Infectious Disease Prevention and Control, STD and HIV Surveillance, Cancer Prevention, and Maternal and Child Health

Recent Activities: In her first year of residency, Dr. Yamba completed rotations and projects with the Environmental Surveillance and Toxicology Branch, Community Health Improvement Division, and Health Ethics. She participated in contact tracing, case investigations and immunizations in support of DSHS' COVID-19 response. She also worked one day a week at the Central Texas VA in a clinical capacity. 

Dr. Muhammad Safwatullah

Muhammad Safwatullah, MD


Medical School: Sindh Medical College, Karachi, Pakistan

Previous Experience: Transitional Year program at Hemet Global Medical Center, Hemet, CA; Clinic Manager at Al-Shifa Clinic Inc. in San Bernardino, CA

Professional Interests: Chronic disease prevention in underserved populations through Lifestyle modification, addiction medicine, clinical informatics, communicable disease surveillance.

Recent Activities: During his first year of residency, Dr. Safwatullah completed coursework for his MPH degree at UTHealth Austin. He will graduate with his MPH in the Fall 2021 semester. He supported DSHS' COVID-19 response through case investigations and contact tracing. He is currently rotating with Sendero Health Plans.

Lakshmi Sahini, MD, MPH


Medical School: Deccan College of Medical Sciences, India

Previous Experience: Transitional Year program at Hackensack Meridian Health Palisades Medical Center, New Jersey; Earned MPH from the University of Massachusetts; Worked for four years at DSHS as an Epidemiologist in Chronic Health and Immunizations 

Professional Interests: Chronic Disease Prevention, Environmental Health, Toxicology and Cancer Prevention, Infectious Disease Control and Prevention, Global Health, Behavioral and Mental Health

Dr Sandra Lozano2(1)

Sandra Lozano, MD, MPH, CPH


Medical School: Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico

Previous Experience: Earned MPH degree at the University of North Texas Health Science Center; Completed OBGYN Residency at Methodist Dallas Medical Center; Decade of experience as a practicing OBGYN physician in private practice and community clinic settings

Professional Interests: Maternal and Child Health, Infectious Disease Prevention and Control, Global Health, Health Disparities and Social Determinants of Health, and Sexual and Reproductive Health
