Education and Training - Texas Cancer Registry
The Texas Cancer Registry (TCR) Training Team offers a variety of training services and educational resources to Texas Cancer Reporters throughout the year. We sponsor in-person and online training sessions, including NAACCR webinars, CTR exam prep courses, basic and specialized training, advanced workshops, and software training. The TCR also publishes the Cancer Reporting Handbook, which is updated annually to provide guidance to registrars reporting cancer cases in Texas.
Training Events and Webinars
The TCR training team holds various Training Events throughout the year, including Basic Training conducted by TCR staff and annual Statewide Training presented by guest speakers. To request basic or specialized training by TCR staff, please complete our Training Request Form.
TCR excitedly announces the sponsorship of the 2023 Statewide Training. Presented by Denise Harrison, LLC, this online training aims to increase abstracting and coding skills for intermediate to advanced level reporters who will then share these newly honed skills with colleagues. Three Category A CEs are applicable for each webinar-a total of 18 CEs for the completed webinar series.
The TCR sponsors live broadcast webinars from the North American Association of Central Cancer Registries (NAACCR).
Prep for the CTR Exam
The TCR sponsors the NAACCR CTR Exam Preparation and Review Webinar Series at a discounted price for Texas cancer reporters who plan to sit for the CTR certification exam. Prospective examinees may take the test during one of the three 3-week long annual testing periods.
October 2023 Exam
The next NAACCR CTR Exam Prep and Review Webinar series will occur August 22, 2023 through October10, 2023. The course allows you to participate and study at your own pace from the location of your choice over eight 2-hour sessions. The sessions happen once a week for eight weeks and will be available online after the initial broadcast.
Through an agreement with TCR, NAACCR is offering the webinar series at a discounted rate for Texas reporters. To receive the discounted rate, complete our CTR Exam Prep Enrollment Code Request. You will then receive an email about the discount and NAACCR registration process within a week of completing the form. Please note, for eligibility for the discounted price, you must initially register through TCR and be a cancer reporter for a facility in the state of Texas.

Education and Reporter Resources
The Fundamental Learning Collaborative for the Cancer Surveillance Community (FLccSC) is a web-based education platform for all cancer reporters, regardless of your level of expertise. Developed by the Florida Cancer Data System and the South Carolina Central Cancer Registry, it provides online training and continuing education.
The TCR offers a variety of materials and resources to help cancer reporters understand guidelines for reporting cancer cases to the TCR and follow best coding practices.
