Vital Statistics Spotlight Awards Nominations 2024

Hello Vital Statistics Partners!

We are revamping the awards and recognition process for Texas Vital Statistics. The 5 Star Awards will be replaced with the Vital Statistics Spotlight Awards, which will use a more collaborative approach for selecting nominees in the following categories: Innovation, Collaboration, and Guiding Statement. We want to recognize contributions that align with our Guiding Statement values, including professionalism, continuous improvement, and excellence in customer service.

With our 70th Annual Conference upcoming this December, this is the perfect time to reimagine our awards and recognition program to strengthen our partnerships with all of you, as you will be involved in every step of the process, from nominating candidates to selecting the winners. Some of you have already expressed interested in participating on the awards selection committee.

Some of the previous 5 Star criteria will be used to determine eligibility for the new Vital Statistics Spotlight awards. Birth registrars must have met statutory requirements to report births within average 5 days and, for funeral homes, deaths within average 5 days (excluding time for medical designation and certification). Local registrar offices must have met the statutory requirement to submit a self-assessment survey in 2024.

The first step is to take a moment to submit nominations for any or all of the award categories. Nominations are due July 31, 2024. Please send any questions to FieldServices@dshs.texas.gov
