Dear Vital Statistics Partners!

The Texas Department of State Health Services DSHS Vital Statistics Section VSS are pleased to announce our Vital Statistics Annual Conference for the 2025 calendar year!

Nominations are open for the 2025 Vital Statistics Spotlight Awards. The awards use a collaborative approach for selecting nominees and winners who excel in Innovation, Collaboration, and the Vital Statistics Guiding Statement through their work. We want to recognize contributions that align with our Guiding Statement values, including professionalism, continuous improvement, and excellence in customer service.

With our 71^st Annual Conference upcoming this December, you will be involved in every step of the process, from nominating candidates, to selecting the winners.

Some of you have already expressed an interest in participating on the awards selection committee. Please email FieldServices@dshs.texas.gov if you are interested. You are welcomed to self nominate your offices. Nominations will be anonymized during the awards selection process.  

Please note that Vital Statistics Spotlight Award winners must be first nominated through the survey (link below) and all nominees are required to meet the following eligibility criteria:

Birth registrars must have met statutory requirements to report births within an average of 5 days.

Funeral homes deaths within an average of 5 days (excluding time for medical designation and certification).

Local registrar offices must have met the statutory requirement to submit a self-assessment survey in 2025.

Nominations are due October 15, 2025, at 8PM CT.
