Rabies Quarantine Facilities

The Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) is responsible for inspecting rabies quarantine facilities in Texas to see if they meet the standards for housing and sanitation established in Texas Administrative Code, Chapter 169, Rabies Control and Eradication (rules of the Rabies Control Act, Chapter 826, Texas Health and Safety Code). Additionally, although they are not inspected by the DSHS, animal shelters in a county with a population of 75,000 or greater and all impoundment facilities regardless of county population in Texas must also meet these standards.
