Safe Riders Child Passenger Safety Program

Welcome to the Texas Department of State Health Services’ Safe Riders Child Passenger Safety Program, in cooperation with the Texas Department of Transportation.

The Safe Riders program offers the following resources and support for parents, child passenger safety technicians, and safety advocates in Texas:

  1. Car seats for families
  2. Car seat inspections/checkups events
  3. Child passenger safety presentations and trainings
  4. National child passenger safety technician certification courses
  5. Educational materials and resources

If you need a car seat, please contact Safe Riders at saferiders@dshs.texas.gov or 1-800-252-8255. Safe Riders responds to messages in the order in which they are received. Please allow two-to-three business days for a response to your message.

Tips for Keeping Kids Safe This Halloween

Halloween safety begins before the tricks or treats! Make sure your child is safe this spooky season using the following tips:

  • Wear reflective tape
  • Use glow sticks
  • Carry a flashlight
  • Cross the street at well-lit corners
  • Pay attention to your surroundings and make sure your children are clearly visible to oncoming traffic
